Job Description
Collects ridership and service data using automated and/or manual
procedures in the field. Conducts various clerical duties in the
office to summarize data into the appropriate reports.
NOTE:All CTtransit employees are required to be fully vaccinated
against COVID-19 and demonstrate at appropriate intervals, that
they have received all subsequent doses ("boosters") of the
COVID-19 vaccine as recommended by the CDC's Advisory Council on
Immunization Practices as those recommendations may be updated.
Examples of Duties
* Conducts passenger counts and schedule adherence checks during
varying times of the day and days of the week. Data is collected
using automated and/or manual data collector equipment. Data is
collected by riding the bus, observing the service in a fixed
location or by observing the service from an automobile.
* The Traffic Specialist will wear a company issued uniform while
on duty.
* Conducts various clerical duties in the office using calculators,
hour/minute machines, copiers, personal computer and other
miscellaneous equipment. Accuracy and attention to detail in report
preparation and data collection is essential.
* Provides back up to the Customer Service Department as needed to
assist in answering telephone inquiries concerning transit
services.
* Inspects various localities being considered for bus service or
where operational problems may be occurring. Inspections may
include reports on vehicular traffic, mileage, control devices and
the adequacy of the road.
* Traffic Specialists will work varying shifts and schedules due to
the need to collect data from all days and time periods in which
bus service is operated.
* Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.
* Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for
professional development as made available by the Agency. Provides
training for Agency personnel as required. Actively participates in
staff meetings, trainings, etc.
* Has thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and
procedures.
* May be assigned special projects with limited notice.
* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
* Minimum possession of a High School Diploma/GED.
* One (1) year of office experience with emphasis on figures and
accurate record keeping. Additional work experience or education
may be substituted for a portion of the work experience or
educational requirement.
* Experience in riding public transportation is preferred.
* The ability to quickly learn the data collection and summary
report processes is required.
* Must be able to write legibly and make arithmetic computations
rapidly and accurately using calculators, hour/minute machines, a
personal computer, and other office equipment.
* The employee must have a comprehensive knowledge of the city and
region and the ability to quickly learn bus routes and schedule
information as well as company policies and procedures.
* Valid drivers' license and the ability to be insured by our
insurance company throughout employment. Individual may be required
to travel in the course of their daily work.
* Proficient in software programs (word processing, spreadsheet and
database), Internet applications and utilization of all relevant
office equipment. The ability to learn quickly internal software
programs. Must be able to handle confidential information.
* The ability to prioritize projects and have excellent
communication skills (especially verbal), interpersonal skills,
tact and diplomacy. Ability to work both independently and in a
team environment.
* A good work record is essential.
