National Grid is hiring a Sr Data Modeler for our Data Engineering group in Massachusetts. This position can also be based in Brooklyn, NY or Hicksville, NY.

Job Purpose

The Senior Data Modeler will be responsible for leading the development, validation, publishing, and maintenance of logical and physical data models required for complex data initiatives. The role will leverage their knowledge of data modeling best practices along with cross industry data expertise and data modeling tool expertise.

As a data modeler, you will be working closely with data architects and data analysts to implement data modeling solutions to streamline and support data products. To ensure success as a data modeler, you should have in-depth knowledge of data warehousing, as well as expert communication skills. Ultimately, a top-notch data modeler should be able to design models that reduce data redundancy, streamline data movements, and improve enterprise information management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead development, validation, publishing, and maintenance of logical and physical data models required for complex data initiatives
  • Ensure data architecture designs are aligned to principles/standards, and regulatory and business requirements
  • Leverage knowledge of data modeling best practices along with cross industry data expertise and data modeling tool expertise
    • Map data sources and targets for data movement and analyze it to ensure appropriate integrity and quality of all data
    • Prepare documents for data architecture and maintain knowledge base for the data structure
    • Identify current paint points that need to be addressed as part of the new data architecture and provide solutions for the same
      • Analyze and translating mission needs into long-term solution data models
      • Evaluate existing data systems
      • Update and optimize local and metadata models
      • Evaluate implemented data systems for variances, discrepancies, and efficiency
      • Troubleshoot and optimize data systems
        Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
        • Work with development team to create conceptual data models and data flows
        • Develop best practices for data coding to ensure consistency within the system
        • Review modifications of existing systems for cross-compatibility
        • Implement data strategies and developing physical data models
        • Good stakeholder management and influencing skills at colleagues, partners / vendors & project sponsors

          Qualifications
          • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar field
          • Extensive experience as a Data Modeler
          • Extensive Data Modelling experience with 3NF, Star Schema, Kimball, Data Vault modelling, etc.
          • Experience in developing, validating, publishing, maintaining Logical & Physical data models
          • Experience using data modeling tools - e.g., ErWin or ERStudio
          • Experience having worked in an Enterprise Data Warehouse project
          • Expert knowledge of metadata management and related tools
          • Knowledge of mathematical foundations and statistical analysis
          • Experience with team management
          • Advanced troubleshooting skills
