OverviewDevelopmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.Transition Specialists in the Children's Day Program are creative, energetic, career-oriented teaching professionals who are motivated to educate individuals with developmental disabilities in an ungraded self-contained classroom. Transition Specialists are offered on-going trainings and support provided by board certified behavior analysts and other qualified professionals to enhance and maximize career growth. Our school programs operate on a 12-month calendar. This is a great opportunity to get valuable experience and knowledge working in a classroom and community setting following the principles of applied behavior analysis.Salary $15.18-$18.22/hrSchedule Monday- Friday 8:00am-3:00pm (32.5hrs)ResponsibilitiesWorks with students at job sites to train students to work in competitive employment or participate in volunteer opportunities.Works on improving all skills necessary for students to be successful in vocational experiences, in-house or in the community. Examples include travel training, work site skills instruction, behavior management, communication and social skills.Responsible for overseeing the assigned in-house jobs and all other applicable documentation for caseload.Completes site books and completes all required data, attendance and paperwork.Assists with other student work assignments if needed.Participates in quarterly and team meetings for students they are assigned.Ensures the completion of tasks/duties assigned to the students by the jobsite supervisor.Must be able to follow policies and procedures consistent with both DDI and the community worksite.Acts as a liaison with the student's jobsite supervisor while building natural supports at the workplace.Assists with building wide duties, such as bus duty.Familiar with and acts in accordance with all policies and procedures in the CDP Handbook for Staff.Must take and pass all required trainings within time expectations.Must maintain an orderly and safe clerical area to use with students.Essential FunctionsMust be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the children i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbsMust be able to lift/move 20 lbs (mats)Must be able to run after student up to 500 feetMust be able to run to a classroom in need up to 500 feetMust be able to kneel, twist and bendMust be able to respond to fire alarmsQualificationsHigh School Diploma required.Must possess one year experience and expertise in instructing and managing behaviors of individuals with autism and/or developmental disabilities.Must be able to work independently, while following programmatic guidelines.Must have or obtain a NYS teaching or teaching assistant certification within 6 months in this position.DDI is committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and employees without regard to actual or perceived race, color, sex, pregnancy, reproductive decision making, gender expression or identity, national origin, disability, military status, creed, religion, age, sexual orientation, marital status, genetic information, status as a victim of domestic violence or any other group protected by federal, state or local law.
