Sema4 believes that patients should be treated as partners, and that data should be shared for the benefit of all.Sema4 is seeking a talented, self-motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to lead cutting-edge translational bioinformatics research in the Precision Oncology domain and contribute to clinical oncology product development. The successful candidate will mine Sema4s huge cache of oncology treatment data in tandem with genomics testing results generated through our clinical sequencing service. You will collaborate with scientists and oncologists to derive novel insights from the data that may lead to improved patient care. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that develops computational methods, pipelines, databases and visualizations that help clinicians to interpret large-scale human genome and transcriptome data and translate that understanding to clinical utility. You will publish the novel results to demonstrate Sema4s innovative use of patient data as a differentiating factor.RESPONSIBILITIESLead or support bioinformatics projects that translate NGS results and/or clinical/EMR datasets into to novel discoveries.Collaborate with oncologists and basic scientists to develop driver projects that make use of Sema4s unique data resources.Contribute to the design and development of Sema4s databases and associated data analytics platform.Design, develop, and test components of clinical NGS pipelines for oncology whole exome, whole transcriptome and other clinical tests.Analyze and integrate heterogeneous NGS data (somatic and germline SNVs, indel variants, copy-number alterations, structural variants, gene fusions, transcript isoforms, RNA abundance, RNA editing and modification) from diverse next-generation sequencing assays (Illumina, Ion Torrent, Pacific Biosciences; targeted panels, whole-exome sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, RNA-Seq; bulk and single-cell) and microarrays.Collaborate with wet labs design experiments to validate novel results.Publish novel findings in academic journals and present at conferences.QUALIFICATIONSPhD in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related discipline. We will also consider MDs with training in oncology and/or Biomedical Informatics.4 years in PostDoc or IndustryStrong computational and analytical skills.Deep understanding of a chosen research field such as cell biology, genomics, cancer biology or clinical oncology.Excellent communicator; experience of working on interdisciplinary teams that include scientists, programmers, and clinicians.Proficiency in one or more programming languages including Python, R and SQL; familiarity with Linux environments and exposure to cloud infrastructures such as AWS.Interest in data science and machine learning approaches to solving complex problems.Experience of developing and documenting high-quality code using version control tools (especially Git) and software issue tracking/management systems (especially Jira).Hands-on experience of NGS tools such as Samtools, BWA, GATK and others.Highly motivated, great ability to work independently or as part of a team.Minimum 2 years relevant post-graduate experience.Department: Bioinformatics Location: Stamford, CT
