Sema4 is seeking a Laboratory Operations Manager -
Biochemistry/Functional Genomics Lab for a full-time position
located in New York City with the primary responsibility to carry
out, oversee, and manage operations in a clinical setting employing
state of the art Mass Spectrometry, Flourometry, and HPLC
technologies. The Laboratory Operations Manager will manage
workflow on a day to day basis, as well as plan and execute
projects as needed to advance business needs. The position requires
technical as well as people management skills, with each Manager
responsible for technical processes as well as the team performing
NOTE: this role will transition to our new Stamford, CT Clinical
location in 2020.
Productivity and adherence to quality of the scientists in the

specimen preparation and processing, analytical processes, data

staffing to meet productivity goals, modeling of best practices as
a clinical laboratory scientist, and expert level technical

Utilize a number of industry leading high throughput automation
platforms, as well as classical manual methods and techniques, to
obtain clinical results and to provide medical information to our
patients and clients.

Provide supervision to high complexity biochemistry testing of
clinical samples from various tissues and biological sources such
as whole blood, plasma, urine, cell culture samples, and

Able to support the laboratory processes in technical,
operations, and regulatory topics to deliver results of the highest
integrity in a laboratory fully compliant with all federal, state,
and local regulations.
Ability to support, direct, and troubleshoot the preparation and
processing of samples for Mass Spectrometric and Flourometric
analysis, HPLC, data analysis and interpretation in a
high-throughput clinical production laboratory employing state of
the art liquid handling and automation systems.
Adheres to strict protocols and best practices required for
clinical testing following CAP, CLIA, and NYSDOH regulations while
maintaining all required records and documentation for continual
Ensures the maintenance of lab supplies and consumables
sufficient to meet productivity goals. Reviews the utilization of
consumables and reagents to ensure efficiency. Works with lab
leadership to develop and maintain financial models for department
Directs and oversees the creation, review, and maintenance of
SOPs, forms, and lab documents in cooperation with lab leadership,
quality assurance, and the clinical leadership teams.
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A or B.S.) in Biology, Chemistry, Cell or
Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, a degree as a Medical Laboratory
Scientist, or another closely related field with sufficient credits
to satisfy regulatory standards and at least one year of clinical
