Description Position at MTA Headquarters Department: MTAHQ - Strategic Initiatives Location: 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10029 Position Title: Data Engineer, Emerging Talent Intern Hourly Rate: $19.00 (Undergraduate), $21.00 (Graduate) All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location. OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT: The Data Engineering Team is responsible for building and maintaining the MTA Data Lake Platform, which powers analytics around the MTA. As owners of the MTA Data Lake Platform, the Data Engineering Team builds infrastructure, tooling, and services that allow for Data Scientists and Data Analysts at MTA to build data pipelines and analyze data. Having built the MTA Data Lake Platform in the cloud, engineers spend time not only on software development, but in cloud infrastructure and devops roles. RESPONSIBILITIES: The key functions of the Data Engineer Intern are as follows: Build and maintain tooling for orchestrating data pipelines Improve codebase testing and alerting frameworks Manage and improve infrastructure-as-code repositories Improve code documentation processes Conduct root cause analyses in response to issues Develop and maintain devops solutions Attendance at daily stand-ups Other tasks as assigned to problem-solve and achieve the goals of the team PROJECTS: Build and maintain tooling for orchestrating data pipelines. Improve codebase testing and alerting frameworks. Improve code documentation processes. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must. The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively. The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player. Strong skills in Python and SQL Experience using Git REQUIRED EDUCATION: Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA AND/OR matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA Major(s) Preferred: Any STEM Majors preferred, all majors accepted All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.
