SUMMARY:Performs a variety of non-invasive diagnostic neurological
procedures on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Uses EEG/EP
instrumentation to create high quality tracings and/or reports of
electro-neurological function for interpretation by
neurologists.MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL
RESPONSIBILITIES:Produces high quality electro-neurodiagnostic
studies with careful attention to patient positioning, preparation,
electrode placement, and other technical factors. Is able to select
and modify technical factors as needed. Must also obtain quality
studies when performing portable, bedside tests on inpatient care
units.Sets up and maintains Long-term EEG/Video monitoring for
seizure disorder evaluation studies. This includes being "on-call"
for inpatient overnight studies conducted on nursing care
units.Provides clinical training and acts as clinical resource for
nurses and other clinicians involved with providing care for
patients undergoing neurodiagnostic evaluation.Processes all
Neurology charges for these exams and prepares exams for physician
interpretation and final transcription and reportingObtains all
pertinent patient information needed to aid physicians in exam
interpretation. Explains the procedure to patients in order to
facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety. Recognizes and
reportsserious findings immediately to a physician.Maintains
diagnostic equipment in peak operating condition with attention to
cleanliness, disinfection and adequate amount of supplies on hand.
Maintains patient records in an orderly fashion.Coordinates
scheduling of patient exams on inpatient units being careful to
obtain all needed information and explaining any patient
preparation needed for the particular tests.Participates in and
supports performance improvement and risk management
activities.Performs other duties as assigned or requested in order
to maintain a high level of service.Completes required continuous
training and education, including department specific
requirements.Demonstrates professional work behavior by following
Service Standards and Success factors
Required Skills
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent required. Previous experience in
diagnostic neurology is required. Certification/ Registration as an
EEG Technologist is preferred. Strong organizational and
interpersonal skills are desired. #COR123
