whale is all about.Overview:As the keeper of brand voice, the
Director of Copy is responsible for celebrating our product and
creating authentic connections with our customers through
storytelling. You'll work as part of a close-knit cross-functional
creative team to bring campaign concepts to life. The Director of
Copy reports into the Chief Experience Officer and works
collaboratively with partners across many functions, from art
directors and marketing to merchandising and design. The ideal
candidate will have a robust creative portfolio working for world
class brands, a clear understanding of retail editorial and copy
needs and strong leadership experience.Key Responsibilities:
- Edit, approve and oversee copy for all channels, including
email, website, seasonal catalogs and mailers, product copy,
digital media, retail signage and window clings for vineyard vines
mainline, OUTLET and wholesale business verticals.
- Manage a team of three copywriters and one freelance
copywriter. Assign work during weekly kick-off meetings in
partnership with project management.
- Establish seasonal messaging and overarching voice direction
for campaigns, ensuring that all copy tells a cohesive, authentic
and creatively aligned story, in partnership with art directors and
marketing.
- Ensure that all cross-channel promotional messaging, including
email copy, subject lines and preheaders, paid ads and store
signage, is optimized for maximum sales potential. Partner with CRM
and marketing to analyze relevant metrics and apply key learnings
to the copy.
- Partner with merchandising, marketing and design to highlight
and celebrate key product features across channels. Lead copy team
in brainstorming names for big idea items, franchises and
collections on a seasonal basis.
- Dive in with the team and write copy as needed, from larger
campaign moments and seasonal refreshes to "in the weeds" projects
alike.
- Collaborate with the social team on caption copy direction,
ensuring that seasonal campaigns and promotional messaging are
accurately represented on social media.
- Act as liaison between digital experience team and creative
team, participating in daily morning sales recaps and keeping the
team updated on strategy shifts.

- Partner with HR on any relevant internal copy needs to maintain
consistency of both internal and external brand voice.
- Maintain a close pulse on current trends in the marketplace,
regularly share out swipe and brainstorm ideas to keep the team
engaged and inspired.What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing or a
related field
- 10+ years retail writing experience preferably in fashion and
editorial, including 4+ years managing a team of writers
- Solid understanding of marketing, media and UX
- Impeccable spelling, grammar, proofreading and editing
skills
- Ability to respond to feedback with a positive, results-driven
attitude
- Knowledge of SEO principles and best practices
- Strong organizational, leadership, management, problem solving
and presentation skills
- Ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines and
