Description. Position Summary The Est--e Lauder Companies (ELC) Inc. is a Fortune 500, multinational manufacturer and marketer of prestige skincare, makeup, fragrance, and hair care products, headquartered in New York City. The company owns a diverse portfolio of brands, distributed internationally through both digital commerce and retail channels. Director, Demand Data Scientist is an individual contributor role. This role will be responsible for analyzing large data sets to develop custom models and algorithms to drive business solutions. Work on project teams in order to provide analytical support to projects (for example, email targeting, business optimization, consumer recommendations). Responsible for building large data sets from multiple sources in order to build algorithms for predicting future data characteristics. Those algorithms will be tested, validated, and applied to large data sets. Responsible for researching new trends in the industry and utilizing up-to-date technology and analytical skills to support assigned projects. Key Activities. Lead deployment & optimization of machine learning forecasting models for order & point of sale forecasts to maximize mix accuracy, plan completeness, stability & reasonability for a complex worldwide supply chain. Drive tactical model & statistical forecast adjustments over different forecast horizons as business needs arise (bias correction, startups, closures, new integrations). Lead extension of models to include additional co-variates (promo, halo, cannibalization). Develop an understanding of regional & global business dynamics to inform & optimize modeling choices. Collaborate with a wide array of regional & global stakeholders to execute model deployment & optimization. Qualifications. Functional Skills. Defines road map to accomplish strategic priorities. Ability to work within and across multiple functional teams, collaborating with Planning, IT, Supply Chain and Commercial stakeholders, and also external partners. Strong written and oral communication skills - able to clearly communicate complex analyses to senior level stakeholders. Strong attention to detail - ability to accurately manage, update, maintain large datasets. Strong technical knowledge - understanding of setting up, using, maintaining statistical forecasting models / tools. Highly analytical - able to conduct complex statistical analysis providing high quality / accurate output. Exceptional complex problem-solving abilities Additional Job Specifications (e.g., physical demands, working conditions, equipment/machinery, specific skills, etc.). Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research or related field. Minimum 10+ years of related experience in Operations Consulting or Data Science role related to statistical forecasting. Knowledge of, and experience with statistical forecasting techniques (classical time series methods) & machine learning models (GLM, kernel machines, neural networks - CNNs, RNNs, tree models), hyperparameter model tuning, tradeoff considerations in model development & scaling. Knowledge of, and hands-on experience with statistical modeling packages (Python, R), cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Databricks). Knowledge of beauty industry and global / regional market trends, supply chain is preferred.
