Job DescriptionBecome a part of the "Bath-Built is Best Built" tradition. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a positive attitude, ability to work independently and productively with various types of people, a go-getter mentality, enthusiasm, and good at identifying process improvements along with problem solving. In this unique role, you will provide Quality Assurance with material surveillance support to all shipyard programs. This individual will also be responsible for BIW's Preventative Maintenance (PM) Quality program.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • PM surveillance program and audits.
  • PM DOI maintenance and updates.
  • PM Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) submittals.
  • Review, analyze, and report on quality discrepancies and data related to PM/production.
  • Develop and implement program quality plans and procedures.
  • Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
  • Investigate problems and develop dispositions and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies.
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure requirements are met.
  • Recommend corrective actions, dispositions, process optimization, and modifications.
  • Provide support to Manufacturing in efforts to identify causes of rework and implement corrections to eliminate rework.
  • Review quality data, identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and make recommendations regarding indicators related to changes in quality levels in the manufacturing process.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Leadership to identify causes of quality issues and determine potential corrective actions.
  • Development of Departmental Operating Instructions (DOI) and conducting process audits in accordance with DOIs.
  • Perform Quality Management System reviews and source inspections at vendor facilities, including receipt inspections of products at BIW; travel may be required for supplier inspections.Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • Q/A Engineer II (C Level): Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar preferred. Demonstrated experience in Quality Administration, Trades, Shipboard Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or Project Engineering/Management is advantageous.
  • Q/A Engineer III (D Level): Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in IT, Trades, Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Supervisory Role in Trades Department (BIW Apprenticeship a plus). Ability to meet job requirements with respect to IT elements is required.Required/Preferred Experience
    • Q/A Engineer II: 3-5 years of experience in Inspection, Project Management, Engineering, Design, Marine Industry, Planning, or Supervisory roles preferred. BIW apprenticeship graduate and/or shipboard experience in commercial or military assignments, or a background in Quality Assurance or Control, is preferred.
    • Q/A Engineer III: At least 5 years of experience in Inspection, Project Management, Engineering, Design, Marine Industry, Planning, or Supervisory roles required. Background in Quality Assurance or Control in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, pharmaceutical, food, or scientific environments is strongly preferred. Preventative Maintenance experience is highly desirable.
    • Practical experience with ISO9001 or similar systems in shipbuilding or other highly regulated industries.
    • Knowledge of systems such as MACPAC, SAP, TipQA, Accuris, shop methods, and construction processes is preferred.
    • Ability to interface effectively with suppliers, customers, and internal divisions is required.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Access, Project, and Visio, is strongly preferred.
    • Experience dealing with Navy or other DoD branches in commercial or military roles is advantageous.
    • Experience in marine/shipboard assignments, either commercial or military, is preferred.
