opportunity has opened up for a Lead Actuary, Global Reinsurance.
Navigators Re writes $500M of premium across a number of niche
lines worldwide. The management team has a strong desire to expand
the breadth and depth of its Reinsurance portfolio with ambitions
to grow its capabilities in the marketplace. The line has support
and visibility at the highest management levels across the
enterprise, making it a high-profile leadership opportunity. This
position is currently responsible for leading the Global
Reinsurance Actuarial team of five actuarial resources. The lines
of business that are currently within the portfolio include Global
Property, Specialty Casualty, Agriculture, Surety, Political Risk,
Trade Credit, and Group Life & Disability (LatAm). It is imperative
to establish strong relationships with the business partners and
build credibility with multiple layers of leadership. The candidate
will need to be comfortable both within and outside of the
traditional actuarial discipline to broaden his or her sphere of
influence. It is important to be able to prioritize work for
maximum impact while keeping the team motivated and engaged. The
position will report directly to The Hartford's Chief Actuary.
Responsibilities: Specifically, the individual in this role will:
Assume responsibility for the actuarial pricing model upkeep and
calibration, transactional overflow pricing support, annual
profitability studies, and annual pricing audits of the Navigators
Re portfolio Maintain & enhance pricing and modelling tools for the
business Work with ERM and capital attribution team to set
volatility parameters used in ROE calculations. Contribute to the
quarterly reserving process, profitability studies and setting of
composite ratios for the annual planning and reforecasting
processes Collaborate with Underwriting, Reserving, Claims and
other matrixed enterprise partners to drive insights and
initiatives Drive efficiencies on the team. Ensure that we reduce
complexity to produce high-quality work with an eye towards
accuracy. Execute on deadlines. Build an understanding of our
competitors and the market in general. Look inside as well as
outside to arrive at the most informed answers and decisions.
Develop and mentor the actuarial team Experience & Skills Minimum
of eight years of P&C actuarial experience, with preference
given to specialty reinsurance and large account pricing experience
FCAS/career ACAS or other equivalent designation preferred
Experience with managing teams and being able to attract and retain
talent from within and external to the organization Highly
proficient in Microsoft Excel is mandatory; additional skill in
Python, R, and/or SQL is highly preferred Ability to prioritize
work efforts and operating plans to achieve business goals and
objectives Proven track record of implementing best in class
actuarial practice within the organization Excellent written and
verbal communication skills to convey technical results within the
management team and other key stakeholders Team player with strong
collaboration skills and ability to build trusting, effective
matrixed partnerships Compensation The listed annualized base pay
range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the
external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or
below the listed range based on factors including but not limited
to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies
required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The
Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards
may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and
on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this
